Author – Matthew Wroe and Family

I live in the countryside surrounded by farmers’ fields in Staffordshire with my wife Kelly and our two cheeky boys. We are very lucky to have a garden teeming with wildlife and fields around us to explore. I love my boys dearly and they are one of the reasons why I started writing, I never really had a father figure in my life and why I want to be everything to my boys that I longed for as a child.

When I was growing up I really struggled in school and found it hard to fit in, at 25 I found out I was dyslexic and reflecting on my time in education I was able to understand why I struggled in school. It was not that I was unintelligent, it was the format which I was being taught that did not suit my brain, and once I understood this I went back into education to become a chartered accountant and since then I have gained my fellowship in accounting and an MBA.

Before writing this book I raised money for charity through endurance events, while I am lucky in life, others are not so lucky and this is why I want to help vulnerable children.

  • I have cycled from Alton Towers Resort to the Eiffel Tower and back (859 miles) to raise money for Merlin’s Magic Wand Children’s Charity.
  • I completed in the UK Ironman, (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26 mile run) and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, to raise money for Scope who I volunteered for as a teenager.
  • I completed an ultramarathon, (100km) and raised money for the Alzheimer’s society due to my mother being diagnosed at the time.

My boys are my biggest focus and by writing a book I could involve my boys and hopefully help vulnerable children in the process. I am a full time accountant, who works for JCB and very lucky to occasionally drive diggers which helped inspire my story. I have a keen love of music and music has been an influencing factor in my writing style as my books are written in rhyming verse.

When I was growing up, going on adventures, imagining I was in magical places is what started my love travelling and I am lucky enough to have been all over the world. My favourite places are Brazil, (Rio and Iguassu Falls), Australia, (diving the Great Barrier Reef and skydiving over the rainforest in Cairns), backpacking Thailand, Egypt, (Pyramids and tombs, I love their history), Iceland seeing the northern lights and backpacking across Europe seeing so many beautiful places. Travelling really opens my mind and I spend more of my money on experiences than acquiring possessions, as possessions become obsolete, break and never really last while experiences are with you forever.

Adventures outstanding on my bucket list are;
To dive with manta rays and whales, hike Machu Picchu, visit the amazon rainforest, climb Mount Everest, row the English Channel and cycle across America.

Illustrator – Crystal Rose Stott

My name is Crystal Rose Stott.

I am a Melbourne based freelance Illustrator and Published Author.

I am working on the Digger series with Matthew as well as my own Novel series ‘Kindred Spirits.

I have developed a wide range of skills in all forms of art and I am highly skilled in watercolour and sketch illustrations. I specialize in children’s books and the creation of whimsical illustrations, book covers, children’s book illustrations and more.

I am truly honoured to have been chosen for this opportunity to work with Matthew Wroe and create illustrations for his new series ‘The Little Yellow Digger that Saved.’ The first book has been a delight to create the illustrations for. It has such a warm family orientated feel and of course it’s a Christmas book, so bright whimsical colours were a must for this book to create the Christmassy atmosphere to compliment the story.

This children’s book series is a wonderful reflection of the author who is not only a wonderful Father, Husband and friend but also beautifully kind soul who comes up with loads of ways to give to those who are less fortunate.

It is a great privilege to be a part of Team Digger and I am thrilled to continue on and create more wonderful illustrations for Matthew’s series. Not only is this a wonderful opportunity but also a challenge of my abilities which I find so fun and rewarding. I traditionally like a lot of detail added in when creating my work and my style before I met Matthew was less cartoon more whimsically realistic. It has helped me grow as an artist and I am so excited to be on this journey alongside Matthew.
